Note to teachers: In North America, we think the word “God” means the Christian God (or maybe the Jewish God). However, in India “God” may be used to mean something different: in Hindu contexts, the word “God” may refer to Brahman, a transcendent deity or the “Ultimate Reality.” Or the word “God” can be a philosophical term similar to the way the word “God” is used in Western philosophy to translate the ancient Greek word “theos.” It’s up to you how much you want to explain the above to the kids. However, you should explain to them that in this story, the word “God” does not refer to the Christian god.
